打ち刃物職人の技術や作品の美しさに驚かされ、建築の技術でも刃物職人を驚かせたいと考えた。
一文字葺きを応用して、数種類の小さなガルバリウム鋼板の型を作り、ランダムに貼り合わせることで、曲面と平面が連続する外壁を美しい刃紋のように仕上げた。
Echizen Uchihamono, a traditional craft of forged cutlery with a history spanning over 700 years, is carried on at Kato Uchihamono Seisakusho, a gallery and workshop dedicated to preserving its techniques and craftsmanship.
Inspired by the remarkable skill of the bladesmiths and the beauty of their work, we sought to create an architectural expression that would, in turn, surprise the craftsmen through the techniques of architecture.
Adapting the traditional ichimonji-buki roofing technique, several small forms of Galvalume steel panels were developed and arranged randomly across the façade. The resulting composition creates a continuous interplay of curved and flat surfaces, evoking the distinctive patterns of a forged blade.
